77 ~ Heavy Artillery

By Kay Heitsch

I didn't give up on my praying for God to replace Bill's drinking with something else. I started to refer to my praying as "Heavy Artillery."
I keep going over to this little church, and I invite Bill to another potluck we were having after church on the weekend. Much to my surprise, he walked in.
The singing group had done a number for the service. I think Bill was impressed at how well they sounded.
After the potluck, a couple of the people in the group invited Bill to stay and sing with them. Wouldn't you know, Bill agreed. Bill began developing a relationship with this group.
Before long, Carol put together a few performance tapes, and Phil taught Bill how to operate the sound system. They gave Bill a key to the church and told him he could come by anytime to practice singing with the tapes so he could sing with them at the Easter program.
I was seeing that my "heavy artillery" prayers were working. Now, instead of stopping to buy beer, Bill was stopping over at this church and singing.
I praise God that He was replacing the drinking with singing. I never would have thought to ask God for this in a million years.
