76 ~ I Didn't Give Up Praying

By Kay Heitsch

I started to attend this little church because I was on a personal mission to understand what I needed to know.
Bill was always working, but one morning I invited him to come over to church. Let's say he was less than enthusiastic about it. So I was surprised when he walked in.
We sang a few songs that Bill knew. Betty, the lady with whom I had become friends, sat in front of us. Betty turned around, put her hand on his, and said something about Bill having a great voice. As soon as she removed her hand, Bill got up and went out the door.
Betty and I were both surprised, and she thought she must have upset him somehow. I never asked him when I got home. This was my mission. Pretty obvious, not his.
Bill was still drinking to ease the pain of Todd's death. I knew this was not going to end well if he didn't stop. So I decided to pray about it. I told Betty about it, and she said she would pray too.
Every day when I knew Bill was getting off work, I would go into the bedroom and pray that God would replace Bill's drinking. I didn't give God any suggestions.
I had faith that God was going to replace the drinking with something. I just didn't know what. Now I was going to have to wait and see.
I praise God that I didn't give up praying and kept my faith that God would replace Bill's drinking with something else.
"Write down for the coming generation what the Lord has done, so that people not yet born will praise Him." Psalm 102:18
