I can't really explain it, but my desires began to change. I found myself getting up very early to study the Bible. This was so bizarre to me, but I wanted to study before anyone got up.
One day, I thought maybe I should go back to the denomination I grew up in to see if I had misunderstood something. I had a lot of questions now as an adult.
I found a church in the phone book. One week, I drove over to attend church. I immediately told a sweet lady named Betty that I was not planning to stay long, but I was looking for answers.
They had an IRS agent who taught the class after the church service. This man was very bright, and he knew the Bible. They didn't use the normal church lesson plan; we only had the Bible. It was great!
I'd say something like, what about this or that, because I knew their church doctrine. This agent would reply, "I used to think like that, but now I don't." I could see he was seeing things in the Bible like I was.
Like most churches, they had a potluck once a month. They were vegetarians, which was fine with me. I liked most of the vegetarian foods. I didn't bring those, but I made several homemade cakes or brownies. I'm happy to say they were a big hit!
Even though this church was small, they had a wonderful group of singers. I was surprised to hear them. Most were related except one lady.
Betty, the first lady I met, and I became friends quickly. I was able to talk to her about my concerns, and she understood what I was saying. God knew I needed a person like her.
I praise God that He directed me to this group. He knew exactly what I needed to learn, and he set me up with a teacher who could help me.
"Write down for the coming generation what the Lord has done, so that people not yet born will praise Him." Psalm 102:18
