As I began reading these books by Dr. Peale, I found myself fascinated to see how people lived these unusual lives. I remember thinking, "What makes these people tick?"
One man in particular caught my attention. His name was James Kraft. Of course, I had heard of Kraft cheese, but I never knew how the company started.
Mr. Kraft was a true believer in allowing God's Spirit to lead and guide him. He would start out selling his cheese. When he came to a crossroad, he would pray. Then, wherever his horse would turn, he believed this was the way the Lord wanted him to go.
To be honest, I thought he was a little out there! But Dr. Peale wrote story after story of people who actually lived by the Spirit of God.
I had never known anyone who lived like this. These people didn't seem religious, unlike the people I knew who were religious. But they lived a quality of life that inspired me.
I went back to the library to see if I could find more books by Dr. Peale. I was surprised to find that Dr. Peale's books were also in the library's religious section. I didn't like that, but now I was feeling drawn to his books. I knew he was onto something I wanted.
I praise God that the library put Dr. Peale's books in other sections, not just in the religious sections, or I would never have found them.
"Write down for the coming generation what the Lord has done, so that people not yet born will praise Him." Psalm 102:18
