Moving around so often from one state to another had its challenges.
It's nice to live in different parts of the country and different towns. K-mart always gave a moving allowance so we could buy new drapes, etc. I really liked that!
We enjoyed visiting the various tourist spots. What was funny was that people who lived in the areas would say we saw more things than they did.
However, changing doctors and finding our way around wasn't always so much fun. Leaving friends and trying to make new friends wasn't always easy.
The kids having to change schools proved interesting, too. Todd had gone to two Kindergartens in Ohio.
When we moved to Indiana, a note was sent home with Todd when he started First Grade that he didn't know how to read. In Ohio, they didn't teach kids to read in Kindergarten. So now Todd was in catch-up.
Let me tell you that he was never in catch-up again. I made sure Todd and Shannon were ahead of the curve on every move after that!
This worked out great with the new teachers, but in one school, Todd came home and said that kids don't like you if you're too smart. I reminded him that we would not be staying long, so it was important to do his best.
Shannon didn't attend preschool because she had other children to play with. I bought a lot of workbooks. Every day we would work in them. Praise God, Shannon loved to learn. So when she was tested before she started Kindergarten, she scored in the top 10% of the county.
When Todd and Shannon started at the next new school, where being smart and getting good grades was cool, they both excelled. I was very happy!
I praise God that Todd and Shannon were able to be in schools where doing your best was cool.
"Write down for the coming generation what the Lord has done, so that people not yet born will praise Him." Psalm 102:18
