35 ~ Bed Race

By Kay Heitsch

We had some fun while we were living in Indiana.
One day, the mall near our home was hosting a bed race. Jimmy Carter was president at the time. His brother, Billy, was going to be there riding in one of the beds.
We decided to go over and see the race. While we were standing around waiting, Billy Carter came over and asked if Shannon would ride in the race with him. Shannon wanted to, but I don't think they won. I have some pictures of the two of them racing.
We were also able to go to one of the time trials for the Indianapolis 500. K-Mart was involved, so the managers, assistants, and families were invited. We were given a jacket and other things. I ended up giving Ricky, one of our foster kids, the jacket years later.
I thought it would be fun to get a bike with a babyseat on the back. Let's just say this wasn't too much fun. I had a slight accident, and every time Shannon saw a bike she would say, "Awe, awe, fall down go boom!" It's funny now, but I still have a scar on my knee.
"Write down for the coming generation what the Lord has done, so that people not yet born will praise Him." Psalm 102:18
