We were living in Sandusky, Ohio, when the blizzard of 1978 happened. Our townhouse was located about a block from Lake Erie. Being so close to the water increased the snowfall we received.
All of the highways were closed. Our TV was only broadcasting on the Emergency Broadcast System. They reported the people dead on the highways and asked that everyone stay home.
Bill had inventory, and even though no one was supposed to be out on the roads, Bill went into the store. Now, Todd, Shannon, and I were home alone.
All of a sudden, I notice a black soot in the air. I looked at Shannon, and she had soot all over her. I didn't know what was going on. This soot was all over the house and on the furniture.
The snow was so deep we could hardly see out the windows. We lived in an end unit, and I soon found our biggest problem was the gas furnace, located outside in a small room.
I called Bill, he called the landlord, and the landlord came out. He knew exactly what was going on and shoveled out the vent.
Seriously, Todd, Shannon, and I could have died that day from carbon monoxide poisoning. I look back now and see God was taking care of us!
This is yet another reason why I praise Him.
"Write down for the coming generation what the Lord has done, so that people not yet born will praise Him." Psalm 102:18
