After I wrote my letter to Dr. Peale and he printed it in Plus, my friend Dee started calling. It was amazing that she was now working for Bill again in a different store 16 years later.
As you remember, I mentioned that Dee worked for Bill during our first move to Ohio. We liked to go out drinking, and Dee gave me a baby shower for Todd.
Dee heard about my letter being published and insisted that I come to her church to share my testimony. I did not want to do this. I was scared! Dee continued calling, and finally she set a date.
I was so afraid that when the day of giving my testimony arrived, I began sweating and shaking. My anxiety was so high that my nose began to bleed. While it was bleeding, God put this Bible verse in my mind. I did not give you the spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.
My head was in the sink, but now I stood up and knew this fear was not from God. I knew that I could do all things through Christ, who would give me His strength. Even if I was feeling fear, I was going to do it afraid, with the Lord's help!
Dee learned that Bill could sing, and he sang first, and then I gave my testimony.
The people in this church were encouraging, loving, and kind. After I gave my testimony, people came right up to me and hugged me. It was amazing.
I praise God that He reconnected Dee and me after all these years and used her to start me out, sharing how God had changed my life and brought triumph out of tragedy.
"Write down for the coming generation what the Lord has done, so that people not yet born will praise Him." Psalm 102:18
